Plantable Seed Paper & Seed Bombs

Le Jardin Perdu greeting cards, seed bombs and packaging are made from recycled paper which has wildlife friendly flower seeds embedded in it. When the seed paper or seed bombs are planted in soil, the seeds grow and the paper composts away. All that is left behind are beautiful flowers which have been carefully selected to provide a valuable source of nectar for visiting butterflies, bees, hoverflies and other insects. Included in the flower mix are;

  • Clarkia elegans (Farewell to Spring) – flowers June – August
  • Rudbeckia hirta (Black-eyed Susan) – flowers July – October
  • Bellis perennis (Daisy) – flowers February – October
  • Lobularia maritima (Sweet Alyssum) - flowers June – September
  • Linaria maroccana (Toadflax) – flowers June – August
  • Silene (Campion) flowers March – November
  • Gilia (Blue thimble flower)– flowers March - September

The plantable wildflower seed paper and seed bombs have been tested and approved for sale in Europe, USA, Canada and  Australia.

HOW TO PLANT YOUR SEED PAPER

You can plant your seed paper either in a pot/tray indoors from March onwards or direct in the ground once the last frosts have passed.

Step 1 – Prepare your pot or ground
If planting indoors, fill your pot 2/3 full with good potting soil and tamp down. If planting direct outdoors prepare the ground in a sunny position

Step 2 – Plant the paper
Cover the soil in your prepared pot or your ground outdoors with the plantable seed paper. It's okay if the paper overlaps. Cover with about 50mm of soil.

Step 3 – Water during germination
After planting the paper in your pot or direct in the ground water the area well. You want the paper and the soil to be nicely damp but not swimming in water. During the first 10 days, keep the paper moist at all times.

Once sprouts appear, continue to keep the paper moist but be careful not to over water. Once sturdy seedlings appear, water only as required.
